Pre Race Questions

What is your refund policy?

We understand that there is a risk of signing up early.  Life happens and despite your best intentions, you cannot run.

Please also understand that we use the registration fees to cover our costs.  There are a lot of expenses that are incurred months before the race.

With that said, we believe our refund policy is the best of both worlds:

If you need to cancel BEFORE April 15th, then we can refund up to 80% of your race fee.

If you need to cancel between April 16th & July 15th, then we can refund up to 50% of your race fee.

Any cancellations between July 16th & August 1st will receive 25% of their race fee back.

After August 2nd, we cannot offer any refunds.

The refunded amount includes what the Caribou Races charges.  It does NOT include the online registration fee charged by runsignup.com.

You CAN defer your registration to the following year up until August 30th.

You can also switch races.  Click here to see our race switching process.

To either defer or cancel, please email chris @ chris@sub5racing.com.

Thank you!

Once in Caribou, Here are some great places to stay….

Where and when can I pick up my race packet?

You may find a complete weekend schedule HERE.

Can I transfer my bib# to someone else?

No. No & a GIANT NOPE.   This creates a safety  and liability issue believe it or not.  We are truly sorry if you cannot run, but your friend will have to register if they want to race.

maine relay online registration

Is this race a Boston Qualifier?

YES.  The course has been measured and certified by USATF standards which makes it a course that can be used to qualify for Boston.  The certification # is ME17007K.  It is all measured and marked and is EXACTLY 42.195K.  Please do not come to the director saying you got a different distance because of your GPS.  The course was ridden several times, cutting all tangents, on a calibrated bicycle using USATF standards.

What will the weather be like in mid September?

Mid September is ideal running weather in Aroostook County.  Between the peaking fall foliage, chilly nights and cool days, you will not be disappointed.

Expect temperatures in the mid 40’s to start and low 60’s during mid day.  HOWEVER, this IS northern Maine.  We could have rain, snow or a chilly wind.  Please check the weather ahead of time and come prepared.

Is there on site parking?

Parking will be at the Teague Park School, the Middle School, the Caribou Bus Garage.

There will be parking maps issued on the website and sent in registrant emails soon.

Will my shirt size I choose be guaranteed?

NO.

We have to order our shirts several months in advance.  Since we don’t have everyone’s registrations in by then, we make an educated guess based on the current orders and history of other races to complete our order.  Based on these factors, it is LIKELY that you will get your size, but NOT  guaranteed.  Come early to packet pickup and that will increase your chances of getting your size.  Packet pickup opens at 2pm on Sept 16th at the Caribou Wellness Center at 55 Bennett Drive.

To allow as many people as possible to get their reserved size, we will not allow anyone to exchange shirt sizes until AFTER the race.

Thanks for understanding.

Race Course Questions

Is there a Course Time Limit?

Yes.  For the safety of our volunteers and crew, we will be pulling all course support at 3pm.  That allows 7 hours to complete the course.

Can I run with my dog?

We love dogs and other animals but in this case, for the safety of others and your furry friend, we do not allow dogs in the races.  This policy applies to all pets including, but not limited to, wookies, horses, cats, goldfish, yaks, sheep, alligators, zebras, hippos, sharks and turkey vultures .

Can I run with a stroller?

Yes.  But, even if you have super sonic speed, we ask that you start in the back for your safety, as well as the safety of your fellow runners.

Will there be bathrooms on the course?

Yes.  We will issue the exact locations in one of our registrant emails.

Will there be aide stations on the course?

Yes.  Per USATF requirements, we will have water every 2 miles with gels and electrolyte drinks at select stations.  Those locations will be given in a registrant email.

Will there be pacers?

Yes.  The marathon and half marathon will have pacers.

Will there be a medical team on the course?

Yes.  There will be 2 teams on the course and one at the finish line.  All surrounding communities will be aware of the race and prepared to assist if necessary.

Can I run with headphones?

Technically….yes, but we strongly discourage it.  For both safety reasons and for the fact that you will miss out on the sights and sounds of an entire community cheering you on.

Will the roads be closed to vehicles on the course?

Some roads will be and other will not.  The course will be clearly marked and in areas where there will be vehicles allowed, we will have a distinct and clear safety barrier of cones creating a lane for runners as well as heavy police patrols slowing vehicles down.  If the vehicles obey the laws and you follow the course instructions, this should be a safe and fun race!
